I’ve completed the first application and copied the proof needed for requesting membership in the Civil War Families of Tennessee under great-great-great grandfather Captain Claiborne Wright West. And, though the lines were already proven by my great-great uncle Hoke West, I still found a few surprises and learned something new.

Membership in Civil War Families of Tennessee, an adjunct association of The East Tennessee Historical Society, is my latest project. I have two great-great-great grandfathers who fought in the Civil War: Claibourne Wright West of Smith Co. TN and George W. Tomberlain of White Co. TN. My next step: obtaining the proof (birth and death records, marriages, etc) that proves my line of descent from Claibourne Wright West and George W. Tomberlain to me.
